Lilac Dreams – a photo essay

lilac for blog 16-1

My mother has the most amazing garden, she cultivates plants with a very natural green thumb.  I have vivid memories of her dragging my sister and me to garden nurseries when we were young, there was one nursery that we loved (as it had a merry-go-round) but the rest of them were boring with a capital B.

Of course now I drag my own girls around to nurseries and when we get the chance we love to visit my mum’s garden down south.  She has a property we call The Farm that is south of Perth and we escape there when we have a weekend free. There is lots of room for mum to indulge her enthusiasm for gardening and we get the benefits in fresh cut flowers each week.

I fell in love with lilac from the beautiful images I see on instagram of abundant lilac branches in the northern hemisphere. I tried growing one a few years ago but our climate isn’t quite right and my gardening skills were  a bit lacking back then. Mum has been growing them at The Farm for a few years and this year I was rewarded with lots of cut stems. Ive put together a photo essay of some of the images I took a few months ago.

These images will have to tide me over to next Spring, and perhaps I’ll have another go at growing my own Lilac bush.

Beautiful photos, Katherine. My Mum has a green thumb too and I only wish we lived closer so I could pilfer her flowers more often. Your girls will one day appreciate being dragged around the nurseries, I’m sure x Bex x
